What is Matrix Theory ?

Like a computer our brain is used to make sense of what it is seeing with our vision, small or touch but with in photographs with low resolution your brain starts to fill in the missing parts.  In raster-oriented computer displays and printing, a term applied to a screen or an image in which text and graphics appear in relatively coarse detail. Resolution is related to the number of pixels (dot-matrix) used to create the image: The fewer the pixels, the lower the resolution and this is where matrix come in to play. The same with the mind, the fewer details the brain will start filling in the image to photo (Matrix), even of it maybe wrong the brain sees a face, outline, or a ghostly image. The better the photo the higher the resolution, the fewer mistakes the mind will make and more likely someone will be able to see details in a photograph better.

This theory can  also be called Pareidolia, What is Pareidolia?

People are always seeing faces in inanimate objects. We see them in clouds, in smoke, in random patterns on walls and trees. While young I used these patterms to make drawings for art class. The technical term is "pareidolia". The reason behind it is pretty clear: as humans, we have evolved to recognize familiar faces such as your mother, dad Etc. We know by sight friends, family and even our enemies. We are able to find details in faces, even the smallest detail. Our brain is hardwired to fit something to patterns and the human face is the most recognizable. It takes remarkably little information to see a face in objects.

What is the ID Theory?

According to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory of personality, personality is composed of three elements. These three elements of personality--known as the id, the ego, and the superego--works together to create complex human behaviors.  The id is responsible for our basic drives such as food, sex, and aggressive impulses. It is amoral and egocentric, ruled by the pleasure–pain principle; it is without a sense of time, completely illogical, primarily sexual, infantile in its emotional development, and will not take "no" for an answer. When a child is hungry, the id wants food, and therefore the child cries.  When the child needs to be changed, the id cries.  When the child is uncomfortable, in pain, too hot, too cold, or just wants attention, the id speaks up until his or her needs are met. Now you maybe asking what dose this have to do with the Paranormal or even Ghost? Some haunting actives center around children, the child see the ghost but the adult can't, the items move around the room when a child enters the room but stops once they leave. This haunting could be the first stage or signs of a child's power being emotionally imprinting on the environment. Once the child has moved up in age, most children loss the ability to see ghost and the active will go away or slow down. The “Ego” once a child moves into their teens and other elements come up in their lives, sex, puberty, or emotional developments problems, haunting actives may come up again. This is only a theory but over time some ghost hunters have see children less effected by a haunting, but with a higher poltergeist active. It is unknown how such emotional elements effect the environment around a child or young teenager but with one of our case it appeared that only the children were effected. From the younger child to the older child, they all had the same experience with the same unseen ghost, but as a child had gotten older the haunting would move on to the next younger children.

BSPHI Theory, Can children see ghosts?

In the last article, we discussed presbycusis. What you missed that article? (Do not fear, you can read it here- hey, that rhymes). In this article we are going to look at another physical reason why children might be able to sense spirits more so than adults.

The visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is generally from 380/400nm to about 760nm. UV or IR differs only in that there are some specialized cells in the retinas of our eyes that contain a pigment that gets excited when it encounters these wavelengths. Cats, for example, have a pigment that gets excited at shorter wavelengths, so they see a little bit into the UV-A range. Could this be a possible reason why cats sometimes act strange in a reported haunted house? (Personally I think cats are just odd in general, but that is for another article) The 'visible range' for a cat is different from the 'visible range' for a human. Here is the important part; very young children can see 380nm (which puts them into the UV range), where elderly people cannot see 400nm; so the 'visible range' changes even for humans.

Within the visible range, we have different colors, because we have three different types of cells in the retina that get excited by three different ranges of wavelength. The colors are ranges, and not just one wavelength. Do you remember your seventh grade science class and the man named Roy G. Biv? Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo & Violet. Remember the order of the colors from long wavelength (Red around 700nm) to short wavelength (Violet around 400nm).

As a side bar, how many times have you heard someone say, "I saw something out of the corner of my eye, but as soon as I looked directly at it, it was gone?" As John Kachuba reports in his book"Ghost Hunting Ohio," (an excellent book by the way you should get a copy):

"There is a thin band around the outer edge of the cornea that is sensitive to some degree of infrared light.  That outer ring constitutes our peripheral vision, so if ghosts inhabit the infrared range, it would make sense that they would best be seen peripherally, that is, from the corner of our eye."

At this point, you might be asking yourself "Why can I see some things in my digital camera that I cannot see with my eye." You would be asking yourself a good question; here is the answer.  That is because most digital cameras are somewhat sensitive in the IR range.  The manufactures of the camera actually build it with a device called an IR cut filter. An IR cut-off filter blocks the transmission of the infrared while passing the visible so the image more closely matches what you see with your eyes. Your typical infrared enabled digital camera, like a Sony with NiteShot, can see between 400nm and 1100nm.

 Before I wrap this article up, I would be remiss if I did not throw a "shout out" to a pioneer in UV/IR technology.  Trevor James Constable an author, aviation historian and investigator of unusual phenomena. His greatest contribution was his book, "The Cosmic Pulse of Life" published in 1975. All the way back in the 1950's, he had modified an old, super 8 camera set to expose two frames per second, with an 18A ultra-violet filter attached. He shot the camera out the airliner window at thirty five thousand feet. According to Constable, he was able to record UFO's in full color, right through the UV filter.

Theory, does your pets see ghost?

Cats and Dogs eye sight is better suited to see a ghost because their eye sights has specifics that human do not have. Such as the dog see better reds, violets, and blues a lot better than other colors, with violets colors playing an important role. This color is out of the range of human eye sight making dogs possibility able to see ghost in these light spectrum. Dogs are believed to be able to see better in low light and that their eye sight is the poorest of all their senses. Cats on the other hand can see almost as well as humans can, and at times better. Cat vision is designed for detecting motion, useful for hunting. Like humans, cats have binocular vision, although not as well tuned as in humans. This means a cat most likely sees in 3-D making very useful for judging distance. Cats have an elliptical pupil which opens & closes much faster than round types and allows for a much larger pupil size. This allows more light to enter the eye in low or dark environments . A ghost to them could appear as a blur of light and might even frighten them. How do we know if your pets see a ghost? “We don’t”, but in most haunted location that has a dog or cat, the owner see changes in their pets. Their pet’s eyes may flow something unseen. They look as being frighted, barking at a spot that there is nothing their. If you feel something that isn’t right, more than likely your pet will feel it even stronger. Pets also have better scents of smell, about 1 million times better for a dog as well as their hearing. We are not saying that your pets is seeing ghost but it is only a theory, most pet owners will say its real and should be believed. Pets appear to scents when something is about to happen before it dose such as an earth-quake. Most ghost hunters will not take on a cases based on a pets feelings, but it all helps to add to the case being more believable.

Space-Time Continuum and Ghost

Albert Einstein said:

Time is hard to define. For starters you cannot see or touch it, but its effects are clearly visible. The evidence that we are moving through time is found in everything: our bodies age, buildings weather and crumble, trees grow, etc. The effects of time on our physical surrounding are very real. Apart from that, time is also defined as the fourth dimension of the universe with the other three being space dimensions.

Space and time are involved in a special relationship. So tight that you might wonder whether either of them could exist without the other. This interconnected relationship of space and time is called the space-time continuum, which means that any event that occurs in the universe has to involve both space and time. A simple example of this relationship would be that of two objects that cannot exist in the same space at the same time, they have to be in their 'own' space, or they might occupy the same space, but at different times.

Theory

What if they occupy the same space but in another dimensions, the 5^th or 6^th, one that can't be seen with the human eye. Once a person pasted over into a new dimensions, or form of light or matter such as Dark matter, etc. We know that an object can “occupy a space” and not be within the same-time or visible by normal light. People who has past over become something new that possibly can occupy a space but under different types of form, only to manifest it self on occasion. Edgar Cayce said that “time is a illusion”, once you no longer have a body to age any more, time no longer excise. In a dimension that has no time you can move or alter the space-time continuum. You are no longer bound to the effects of time on our physical surrounding. The relationship between the space and time would be broken and no longer in play as a Ghost.

This theory that was in BSPHI newsletter, we also felt was a great answer to some of the questions we are asked.

In BSPHI experience this is a true statement-they do experience more paranormal events. One theory is that they see and talk to ghost more because they are still young and have not had their brains conditioned by adults to thank that spirits are not real. However, there could be a possible scientific explanation. Let us look further at a phenomenon called presbycusis.

According to the University of Virginia, "Presbycusis is the gradual loss of hearing that occurs as people age. It is common discorder associated with aging. One in three older adults over age 60 has hearing loss. Half of the people over the age 75 have hearing loss. Presbycusis usually occure gradually, with some peoplenot immediately aware of the change."

What dose this mean? It means that younger you are the more frequencies that you can psychically hear. One of the beat example of this is the ring tone that teenagers use on cell phones called the mosquito ring tone. By using this ring tone, they can hear friends calling, however, adults cannot. In contrary businesses use this ring tone to keep teenagers from loitering. The business will blast these sounds out over a loud speakers to make it uncomfortable for the teens while the adults are undistributed. BSPHI has posted on You Tube video that also demonstrares this sound.    

 Is this a possible reason why children are more susceptible to hear spirits? Perhaps; but it dose prove that there are always sounds around us that we cannot hear. Maybe we are just not tuning into the correct frequency.......not yet.

How come Digital Recorders can pick up voices that are not there?

The theory is, like a child, Digital recorders have the ability to pick up sounds that older people would not hear. The frequency that a recorder can pick up can vary from the different recorder type's but most operated within more that one frequency. The normal human hearing is one of the five senses of the body. The human ear is an amazing body part because it enables humans and animals to hear what goes on around them. The number of vibrations that are produced per second is called frequency. Frequency varies for each sound and can be measured in hertz. One hertz is equal to one vibration per second. A sound with a low frequency will have a lower pitch, such as a humans heartbeat. A sound with a high frequency will have a higher pitch, such as a dog whistle. Humans do not have the ability to hear sounds of every frequency. The range of hearing for a healthy young person is 20 to 20,000 hertz. The hearing range of a human will become worse with age as pointed out by BSPHI. People loss the ability to hear sounds of high frequency as they get older like shown in the BSPHI video above. The highest frequency that a normal middle-aged adult can hear is only 12-14 kilohertz. Also, the hearing range for men worsens more quickly than the hearing range for women. The Digital recorder, recording range will not loss the ability to hear such frequency while recording sounds. On the other hand a human could loss over 50% of their hearing due to high pitch noises due to work, machines, and other high frequency sounds. You might have to slow down a recording or change a recording pitch to better hear what words are being said, but unlike your hearing the digital recording will never loss the ability to pick up the unheard sound, if their.

What dose storms have to do with ghost?

It is been studied, that while water plays a roll in haunted locations, lighting storms also can play a big roll. While during a storm the air becomes charged with high levels of Ionization. Ionization is the formation of one or more ions with the addition of electrons. This type of charge can be found naturally in storms. It is from lighting, that ionization takes place. Lighting is a large-scale high-tension natural electric discharge in the atmosphere. While it has been hard to document that ghost are more active while on a stormy night. It is believed that the Ionization of the air could help a ghost manifest it self. Like orb’s that can be seen, the combination of the highly charged air and the water viper is believed to help a ghost to manifest it self. Ionization could also increase the magnetic field like an electron magnet. The ghost could use the charged air to draw upon like our natural and man-made forms of electricity. This would make it able to possibly move items or to become vocal and even visible.

It is believed that ghost is not just the spirit of someone who has pasted over but some form of energy. It is not know what type of energy but it is believed that it could draw upon natural forms of energy to become stronger. Its like electricity but with form and thoughts with the ability at time to show it self. The ghost hunter’s use of the EMF meter is a starting point. The EMF meter could pick up such charges in (electrical) field that it might be possible to detect if a spirit (ghost) is trying to manifest it self. The EMF meter is used to find such changes in the energy around a possible hunted location.

.AC Electrical Sensitivity

What it is:

Electrical sensitivity (ES) - sometimes called electro-sensitivity, electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS), radio-wave illness or microwave sickness - is a condition in which a person experiences physical and/or psychological symptom that are aggravated by electric or magnetic fields (EMF) or other electromagnetic waves at exposure levels tolerated by the general public. It is debatable whether EMF exposure causes sufferers' symptoms, and the balance of evidence from studies so far indicates that the link is false. (However, keep in mind that studies are only as good as the subjects that are tested.)  There are over 30 studies into electrical sensitivity, of which the majority have found no relationship between electromagnetic fields and the symptoms being suffered. The World Health Organization states that there is no known scientific basis for such a link; but many sufferers and their support groups are firmly convinced of a relationship.

 Electrical sensitivity produces symptoms in certain people when exposed to common levels of electromagnetic fields from electrical sources in the environment: power lines, motors, telephones, computers, cellular telephones, etc. For the paranormal researcher, it is very important to note that these are all MAN MADE AC fields.  Despite the conveniences of electrical technology, the effects of EMF on biological tissue remains the most controversial aspect of the issue with virtually all scientists agreeing that more research is necessary to determine safe or dangerous levels.

 Iron, necessary for healthy blood and stored in the brain, is highly effected by EMF. The permeability of the cell membrane of our nerves, blood vessels, skin, and other organs is affected. The DNA of the chromosomes has been shown to be effected by EMF’s as well. In fact, throughout our bodies, every biochemical process involves EMF sensitive atoms, molecules, and ions. You might be asking yourself, "What about the EMF field surrounding the human brain." This field is actually a DC field- more on this in another newsletter.

How it is measured:

There are many different AC EMF meters on the market.  The ones you will most often see are the K-II safe range EMF meter, Tri-Field, Call Sensor and the Extech electromagnetic field and extremely low frequency meter, the main difference between the two models being the Extech supports a full digital readout, the tri-field uses a meter and the K-II (the most basic of just about all emf meters) only has reference lights which light at different readings. For this reason we rely on the Extech meter as our meter of choice for verifying the presence of EMF fields.

 Generally Accepted Limits:

The U.S. government has been slower to act in establishing its own standards.  Because of this the Swedish standard is generally accepted throughout the world. After more than 25 years the Swedish government established a safety limit for exposure to EMF magnetic field at 2.5 milligauss. What this possibly means is that if someone consistently experiences exposure which exceeds the standard, that person could be at risk for developing health problems which can range from headaches, fatigue, and dizziness, skin rashes, miscarriage, leukemia, and cancer. In fact, numerous court cases where plaintiffs claim to have been injured by EMF’s are now in progress.  One must ask themselves if this is why the US government is hesitant to establish a 'safe limit' for exposure.  Once a standard is set, this could open the flood gates for law suites.

 Electrical sensitivity symptoms:

 In a recent ES survey, the five most common symptoms experienced when EMF exposed were:

• Skin itch/rash/flushing/burning and/or tingling

• Confusion/poor concentration and/or memory loss

• Fatigue/weakness

• Headache

• Chest pain/heart problems

Less commonly reported symptoms included:

• Nausea

• Panic attacks

• Insomnia

• Seizures

• Ear pain/ringing in the ears

• Feeling a vibration

• Paralysis

• Dizziness

• Pressure in the chest

• Facial flushing

• Pain or burning in the eyes

• Pressure in/behind the eyes

• Itching

• Burning

• Skin rash / Bruising

• Pain or pressure in the chest

• Shortness of breath

• Anxiety

• Irritability

• Numbness / tingling

• Dryness of lips, tongue, mouth, eyes

More severe reactions can includs:

• Brief hallucinations

• Paralysis

• Psychosis

• Stroke

Some ES patients experience only one symptom when EMF exposed, but often more than one symptom is apparent. Electromagnetic frequency sensitivity testing can be done at a facility such as the Environmental Health Center in Dallas, Texas to determine if an individual has electrical sensitivity. An Electrical Sensitivity Diagnostic Kit may be helpful in determining which type of ES affects an individual (AC magnetic fields, electric fields only, or DC fields) by exposing the subject to one type of EMF at a time in order to analyze the cause of symptoms.

 How to reduce EMF:

Power Frequency Electric Fields

Most people who describe themselves as electrically sensitive have sensitivity to at least electric fields, and often to other fields. Electric field control can be time consuming and expensive. The fields that are most often a problem are from electrical wiring in a building or from appliance wiring. Although power frequency fields can be measured directly, the preferred approach for this type of work is "body voltage testing," which is measures he weak electric fields inside a room.

 Corrective measures:

 Electric field shielding (conductive paint, mat, screen)Replace all existing wiring with armored cable

• Shield all appliance sources

• Eliminate elevated neutral to ground voltage on the building electrical system through proper grounding

Power Frequency Magnetic Fields

Magnetic fields are present wherever electricity is in use, and radiate from power lines, appliances, electrical wiring, etc. Many people who suffer from electro-sensitivity experience discomfort in the presence of these fields.

 Corrective measures:

Eliminate plumbing current (neutral current diversion) problems

• Eliminate all "net currents," or current imbalance problems, on electrical circuits in the building.

• Magnetic shielding for high current point sources, such as electrical service panels

Higher Frequency Fields - Conducted

 This usually refers to multi-frequency electrical noise that is conducted into your home wiring system through the power feed and grounding system or generated within the house by dimmer switches or motorized appliances and then radiated from the wiring in a field. If a broadcast transmitters are close by, their signal will also ride in on the power feed.

Corrective measures:

• Improve the grounding of your house. The power company neutral in the feed to your house is connected to ground for a number of reasons but the ones that are significant for electro sensitivity reasons are to conduct high frequency noise and transients to ground and to stabilize the neutral-to-ground voltage.  

Why is this information important to paranormal researchers?

There are lots and lots of paranormal tv shows out there that shows investigators walking around trying to chase down a ghost using an AC emf meter.  Why?  Beats me- from my research there is no scientific relationship between a spirit and AC meter readings.  Now with this said, I have personally witnessed some spikes on these types of meters that could not be explained.

 The biggest thing for the paranormal investigator to understand is that high EMF fields can bring about the same feelings and sensations to a person that have often been reported in claims of a haunting: confusion, memory loss, panic attacks, insomnia, feeling a vibration, anxiety, irritability and even brief hallucinations just to name a few.  It is so important for the investigator to rule out all possible explanations before assuming a place is haunted.

The next time your on an investigation and you see someone running around with an AC meter trying to 'chase down a ghost' ask them why and see if there answer is "because I saw it on TV."

Mental Health and the Paranormal

Sleep Deprivation:

In today’s world of bad news and job loss, things could play upon people’s minds. On top of that lack of sleep from such worse and stress could make for a sleepless nights. Now we throw in to the mix, sounds of floors creaking, wind blowing, and the sound of unexplained. All could play a role on the mental health and the paranormal feelings that come with sleep deprivation. We feel that it’s imported to find all possibilities to the feelings that lead to the belief that a person is seeing ghost or their place being haunted. We don’t call someone a layer, but we keep an open mind to other answers to a haunting. If someone is up at all hours of the night and sleep deprivation has setting in, other health issues then come up. Sleep walking, hallucinations, confusion and feelings that you are not alone.

We will start with sleepwalking: Someone could sleep walk and feel as if they are not a sleep. In doing so others around them could be mistaken for something like a ghost do the there eyes sight is not clear to what they are seeing

Hallucinations:            

Is a false perception having no relation to reality and not accounted for by any exterior stimulus; a dreamlike or nightmarish perception occurring while awake. Affected people typically appear confused and agitated. They are unable to distinguish between the real and imaginary.

There are a number of levels of hallucinations; from hearing sounds and voices that are not there to the feeling as if you are being watched. While in this state of hallucinations from sleep deprivation people should be asked if they are having sleeping problems or some other type of problem going on in the house.

Sleep paralysis: A frightening form of paralysis that occurs when a person suddenly finds himself or herself unable to move for a few minutes, most often upon falling asleep or waking up. Sleep paralysis is due to an ill-timed disconnection between the brain and the body.

The symptoms of sleep paralysis include sensations of noises, smells, levitation, paralysis, terror, and images of frightening intruders. Once considered very rare, about half of all people are now believed to experience sleep paralysis sometime during their life.

Sleep paralysis strikes as a person is moving into or out of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, the deepest part of sleep. During REM sleep the body is largely disconnected from the brain leaving the body paralyzed. Sleep paralysis is the result of premature (or persistent) mind-body disconnection as one is about to enter into (or exit from) REM sleep.

Sleep paralysis occurs most often after jet lag or periods of sleeplessness that interrupt the normal REM patterns. It affects both sexes equally and occurs at all ages but is most common in teenagers. Sleep paralysis can be familial and may be genetic (inherited) in some cases.

An attack of sleep paralysis is usually harmless and self-limited. It tends to be over in a minute or two as soon as the brain and body re-establish connections and the person is able to move again. However, the memory of the terrifying sensations felt during sleep paralysis can long endure. (Some scholars believe that sleep paralysis may account for some of the old claims of attacks by witches, seeing ghost, being touched by unseen hands and the more recent "reports" of nocturnal abduction by space aliens.)

Definition: Prolonged periods of time without sleep (sustained natural, periodic suspension of relative consciousness).

What other items that could bring on Mental Health problem that could lead to confusion, the list is but not limited to:

Alcohol abuse; Substance abuse; Medication/Drugs: anesthesia; Anticholinergics, diphenhydramine, opioids, psychoactive drugs, multiple medications; Metabolic abnormalities: decreased hemoglobin, electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, increased BUN/creatinine, azotemia, malnutrition; Infection; Urinary retention; Pain; Fluctuation in sleep-wake cycle; Decreased mobility; Decreased restraints; History of stroke; Impaired cognition; Dementia; Sensory deprivation; Over 60 years of age; Male gender.

Within someone mind lay’s the answers when such problems appear to a paranormal investigator. Someone in the paranormal filed should look at gathering information that might guide the person who seeking their help to the right people, such as a doctor or a specialist. It's the paranormal investigators job to help find the answers. By questing the people who is asking for your help, you might find other answers. The underlaying cry for help, such as family problems could be help by a professional, possibly stopping the feelings of being haunted.

We wouldn’t be in the paranormal filed if we did not believe or investigating locations that are said to be haunted.  A good way of thinking is using the famous saying by Sir. Arthur Conandoyle "Eliminate the impossible and whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth" before making a claim of some place being haunted. What better, to help someone by first finding the truth.
